Freedom Of Speech

Is there really such a thing as "Freedom Of Speech"? Just the other day I was thinking to myself can I say whatever I want to say whenever I want to say it. The truth is yes I can. Freedom of Speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation; but here is the deal, you have to face the consequences of your speech. Freedom of speech does not mean you can say what the want to say without facing the consequences. There are laws that protect the populace from those who would speak words at the expense of others. Laws such as "Slander" (an untruthful spoken statement about a person that harms the person's reputation or standing in the community), or how about "Verbal Abuse"(the use of words to cause harm to the person being spoken to). Verbal abuse may consist of shouting, insulting, intimidating, threatening, shaming or demeaning another in a derogatory way. What if you said something about your employer that is negative? The consequence could be loss of a job, even though under the constitution you have the right to say it. What we say and how we say it is important. The question is: Is the consequence worth it? So, the next time you feel like calling a cop a jerk think about it......chomp chomp!!!!!!
